Like so many aspects of the healthcare environment, strategic planning has faced many challenges as providers adjust to shifting demands. Growth is happening and it is being driven by achieving flexibility/adaptability, growing revenue and improving population health and care access. This session will evaluate changes and trends impacting organizations’ strategic planning as they adjust to these new realities as well as the rise in patient consumerism.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explain the findings of the survey of Healthcare Design’s A/E/C survey.

2. Evaluate the rise of renovation vs. new construction and examine trends in size of projects and total spend.

3. Discuss the benefits and potential pitfalls of each course of action (new vs. renovate) and where each makes the most sense.

4. Describe one organization’s new build, its role as the first part of a changing strategic plan and how it will impact their facilities in the future.
