A Survey of Gartner's Top 25 Supply Chains

Each year, Gartner ranks the leading healthcare supply chains into a Top 25 Healthcare Supply Chains ranking. Join Mike Langlois and leaders from this group of health systems as they discuss the challenges this group of healthcare leaders have confronted in managing their CSC. Mike recently completed a survey comprised of these leaders and will discuss the findings during this session. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss how the shared experiences of the panel align with the results of the Gartner survey. 
  2. Identify the differences between each panelist as they describe their CSCs model and how it performed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  3. Examine the supply chain participants that lacked in their performance during the pandemic (i.e., government agencies, GPOs, and distributors).​​​​​
  4. Determine the benefits in collaborating with other CSCs and how to best establish those relationships.

Ed Hisscock is the Senior Vice President of Supply Chain at Trinity Health, a leading catholic healthcare ministry and a Healthcare Supply Chain Practitioner.  Ed has spent over 25 years serving in the supply chain and IT disciplines with fortune 50 companies, healthcare supplier and healthcare provider organizations. Ed has founded two healthcare companies and personally served over 100 healthcare provider organizations in the US and Europe.  Ed holds an engineering degree in electronics, a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science, and a Master's degree in supply chain from Michigan State University.

Dennis Mullins, MBA, CMRP, is a seasoned healthcare supply chain executive with over 35 years experience in the business. Most recently Dennis served as the SVP, Supply Chain Operations at Indiana University Health where he led the transformation and modernization of their supply chain operations to a fully integrated supply chain by designing and leading the construction and deployment of their new Integrated Service Center, which supports all supply chain needs for it’s 17 hospital system. Prior to IU Health, Dennis was at Baylor Scott and White Health in Dallas, Texas, where he led a large supply chain team as their Corporate Director of Supply Chain Integration. He also previously served in Supply Chain roles at Shands at The University of Florida and HCA Healthcare, among other organizations. Additionally, he honorably served in the United States Air Force for 10 years as a medical materials specialist. Dennis is an effective leader along with a proven ability to meet and exceed strategic supply chain goals. He holds an MBA from Amberton University, and he is a candidate for a doctorate in business administration from Grand Canyon University. Dennis and his wife, Audrey, have a son and three daughters.

Tim Nedley is the Vice President, Materials Management for UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA. He has overall responsibility for distribution, logistics, materials management, transportation, print, freight management, and fleet management. Nedley was named in the Journal of Healthcare Contracting’s list of Top Ten People to Watch in 2016. He specializes in change management, operational enhancements and other projects that have a positive impact on an organization’s bottom line. Nedley has honed and applied best practices over 28 years of leadership experience at UPS, Owens & Minor and UPMC. Since starting at UPMC, he and his team have increased warehouse and materials management productivity in excess of 30% and are on track to drive out $14M in inbound freight spend over the next 5 years. Nedley earned a BS in Human Resources from Geneva College.
