Triumph Through Adversity: Redefining Cancer Care Amidst

a Pandemic, Power Failures, and Market Instability

October 24 | 12 PM (EDT)

This team’s engagement spanned from project kickoff to closeout, streamlining the implementation of finishing touches that culminated in a truly balanced, healing environment, but throughout this process, came a lot of challenges. On the day the project was kicked off, the world shut down because a pandemic struck and sent the world into isolation. This was an unprecedented challenge, but this community was relying on the team to adhere to the original construction timeline to bridge regional gaps in cancer treatment as part of its $30 million “Building the Dream” campaign. First Health sought to establish one centralized facility that would eliminate the need for arduous, long-distance travel, connecting patients with the highest caliber of care, closer to home.

This webinar will tell the story from both the design team and the owner’s perspective, and share how all stakeholders and disciplines were able to come together and deliver a cancer center that stands as the pinnacle of modern, patient-centric design using many industry strategies such as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) as a project delivery method, and creating true-to-scale mock ups of clinical spaces to empower the medical professionals to provide input.

Learning Objectives

1. Differentiate planned speed to market strategies versus pandemic response strategies.

2. Understand how a team can navigate challenges such as unexpected market stability including supply chain impacts.

3. Describe the design elements that made this building an incredible healing environment and “Haven of Hope”.

4. Learn how to integrate multiple care models into a single facility, streamlining registration, check-in, triage and check-out.

5. Identify the benefits of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) for this project.
